Sunday, Natalie and I went out for pancakes, just the two of us. She's been a little clingy the last few months and made some comments last week about Ainsley getting to stay home with mommy all day while she (Natalie) has to go to school. I felt it was time to institute a regular date schedule with Natalie. So, there I was Sunday morning eating pancakes with my 4 year old who was across the table cutting her own pancakes with her fork. (where and when did she learn to do that?)
"This is really fun. I'm glad we came out for pancakes." I say.
"Yep. They're good. Next time, let's bring Ainsley and Daddy." She chirps.
"What? Aren't you having a good time having alone time with mommy." I ask.
"Yes. It's fun. But I think Ainsley and Daddy would like this place." was her response.
Great. All this alone time and here she is wanting to bring people along!

I'm totally a project-oriented girl. Always trying to get something done with a to do list the length of my arm. One of my biggest hurdles as a mom has been to engage my children. When they're being good, it's so hard for me not to take the opportunity to check off one more thing off the list. I find myself often saying, 'just a minute, mommy has to [fill in the blank]'. So, many days, I will put 'play with the girls' on my to do list just to remind myself to refocus on what's important. This brings me to the next hurdle. What to do with them.... we do crafts and play-doh, but is there more out there? So, help a sister out, let me know what you enjoy doing with your kids that they ask to do over and over..... ready, GO!

A conversation with my 4 yr-old daughter today:
Natalie: Is that daddy's work?
Mommy: No, sweetie, but it does look his parking garage.
Natalie: Is that daddy's work?
Mommy: No, we aren't going to pass his work today.
Natalie: Is that daddy's work?
Mommy: No.
Natalie: Some mommy's go to work, right mommy?
Mommy: Yes they do. But mommy works at home.
Natalie: It's your job to clean up, right?
Mommy: Right....
I'm not sure if I like where this is going....

Ainsley: I wan daddy.
Mommy: Daddy's at work.
Ainsley: No, daddy ome. Mommy owe erk.
Natalie was on a roll today. First, she and Ainsley had lollipops and somehow Natalie ended up with both in her mouth (yes, at the same time). I said, "Natalie, are you eating Ainsley's lollipop?" Natalie responded, "No, mommy, I'm just licking on it."
Tonight Natalie found a pair of fleece pajamas a size too small for her. She begged to wear them. As I tucked her in, she unzipped the sleeper all the way to her ankles. I told her not to take her pjs off, worried she would get cold. She said, "I'm not taking them off. They're too hot so I'm just gonna let a lot of air in here."
Today was Natalie's first day of school (for this year) and I was a little nervous since last week when we met her teacher she was a bit clingy the rest of the day. Last night before bed, I told her preschool was today and she woke up this morning begging to leave for school at 7 a.m. When we got there, I walked her into her classroom where she was bear hugged by her good friend Kaden. I said, 'Bye, Natalie. Mommy's leaving." No response. "Ok, Natalie, I'll see you this afternoon. I'm leaving." Again, Natalie was too caught up with Kaden and her other friend Camryn to even acknowledge my goodbye. So much for worrying.
